Advance Directive Notification

While at a JCMG facility, any advance directive of No Code or Do Not Resuscitate is suspended, and resuscitative services for all patients requiring lifesaving support measures will be implemented.

In the state of Missouri, all patients have the right to participate in their own health care decisions and to make Advance Directives or to execute Powers of Attorney that authorize others to make decisions on their behalf based on the patient’s expressed wishes when the patient is unable to make decisions or unable to communicate decisions. JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and all JCMG facilities upholds those rights. It is the intent that employees of the JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and all JCMG facilities are familiar with advance directives. If you wish to complete an Advance Directive, copies of the official state forms are available at our facility. We will place a copy of your Advance Directive on your JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and JCMG medical record if you desire.

Procedures performed in JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and all JCMG facilities are considered to be of minimal risk. While no surgery is without risk, you are to discuss the specifics of your procedure with your physician who can answer your questions as to its risks, your expected recovery, and care after surgery. During operations and/or procedures at JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and all JCMG facilities, any advance directive of “NO CODE” or “DO NOT RESUSCITATE (DNR)” is suspended. JCMG Surgery Center, Inc. and all JCMG facilities provides full resuscitative services for all patients requiring emergency life saving support measures. Advanced life support will be instituted should an emergency situation arise during your operation/procedure.

It is our policy, regardless of the contents of any Advance Directive or instructions from a health care surrogate or attorney-in-fact, that if an adverse event occurs during your treatment at this facility, we WILL initiate resuscitative or other stabilizing measures and transfer you to an acute care hospital for further evaluation. Your agreement with this facility’s policy will not revoke or invalidate any current health care directive or health care power of attorney. If you do not agree with this facility’s policy and wish to reschedule your procedure at another facility, you will need to discuss such with your physician.
