Safe, Expert Anesthesia Care for Every Procedure

Facing surgery or a medical procedure brings enough concerns without worrying about pain or discomfort. Jefferson City Medical Group, Central Missouri's largest independent, physician-owned practice, offers comprehensive anesthesia services to ensure your safety and comfort throughout every procedure at the JCMG Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Our board-certified anesthesiologists care for patients of all ages undergoing various surgeries and diagnostic procedures, from routine operations to complex interventions.

Types of Anesthesia at JCMG

Our anesthesiologists select from four distinct types of anesthesia based on your procedure requirements and current health status. Each type offers specific benefits tailored to different surgical needs:

  • General Anesthesia: Patients remain completely unconscious with a breathing tube supporting lung function. This type works best for major surgeries requiring complete muscle relaxation.
  • Monitored Sedation: Medications like Propofol help patients relax into a comfortable nap while maintaining independent breathing. This option suits shorter procedures where deep unconsciousness isn't necessary.
  • Regional Anesthesia: Large areas of the body are numbed using spinal anesthetics or nerve blocks. For hip and knee replacements, this approach numbs the lower body while avoiding a breathing tube.
  • Local Anesthesia: Numbing medication is injected directly into the surgical site for minor procedures. The treatment area stays completely pain-free while patients remain fully awake.

Your anesthesiologist discusses which type best matches your procedure during your pre-operative evaluation. Throughout your surgery, we continuously monitor your vital signs and adjust your anesthetic as needed to maintain your safety and comfort.

You can work with your physician to determine the best type of anesthesia for your needs. Call us at (573) 556-7765 with questions!

Your Safety Is Number One During Anesthesia

Before your procedure, our anesthesiologists review your complete medical history, current medications, and any health concerns that might affect anesthesia selection. During your procedure, our team continuously monitors your vital signs, tracking heart function, lung capacity, oxygen levels, and blood pressure in real time. This constant surveillance allows immediate response to any changes in your condition.

Working alongside the JCMG surgical team at our outpatient surgery center, our anesthesia providers coordinate directly with surgeons and nurses throughout your procedure. In the recovery room, trained staff monitor your return to consciousness, manage any side effects, and ensure you're stable before discharge.

When You Need Anesthesia Services

Understanding when anesthesia becomes necessary helps you prepare mentally and physically for upcoming procedures. Consider these situations:

  • Scheduled surgical procedures requiring pain control and patient comfort
  • Diagnostic procedures where remaining still is essential for accurate results
  • Procedures where local anesthesia alone would be insufficient

Don't delay needed procedures because of anesthesia concerns. Our team addresses your questions and fears before your appointment.
