Individuals young and old can develop excess skin of the upper eyelid as well as unsightly fat pockets. In severe cases, the malpositioned tissue can block upper and outer visual fields. I like to compare it to wearing a very low set ball cap all the time. Surgical correction involves removal of the excess skin and orbicularis muscle and smoothing the fat pockets. This leads to a natural appearance after surgery. The incision typically fades into the upper eyelid and is not noticeable after surgery. Patients note that any previous blockage of the vision resolves. Also, patients will look brighter, more awake, and have more youthful upper eyelids.
