Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation (with implants) and Natural Augmentation (with fat grafting)

Some women are born flat chested. Others may become that way after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or cancer. (For our purposes, breast reconstruction after cancer is discussed elsewhere as separate condition.) For women without much ptosis (sag), breast augmentation alone is an excellent weight to increase fullness of the chest with a straightforward surgery and relatively quick recovery. The traditional method for breast augmentation is with a saline or silicone implant. Study after study shows that breast implants have a strong and reliable safety profile.

But implants are not for everyone. Natural augmentation can also be performed using a woman’s own fat. Liposuction is performed harvesting fat located in an undesirable location (such as the abdomen or saddlebags). This fat is then processed and reinjected into the breasts to create fuller, shapelier breasts. A nice side effect is the simultaneous shaping and trimming of the waist.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons considers these cosmetic procedures which are not covered by insurance (excepting breast cancer).

If you have interest in this procedure, ask about a consultation. We can talk about what would work best for your goals.
