Governor Mike Kehoe recently declared April 15, 2025, Bunion Day in Missouri! JCMG podiatrists Dr. William Duke and Dr. Jody McAleer will celebrate by handing out free gifts and educational information at their Stadium Boulevard location in Jefferson City on that day. Acknowledging the range of effects this issue has on the lives of around 25% of Missourians presents an opportunity to raise awareness of the treatments available.
The JCMG Podiatry team uses the innovative Lapiplasty technology and are nationally recognized as experts on this procedure, often instructing other doctors on how to execute it with the best results. This ground-breaking procedure allows patients to walk sooner after surgery enabling them to return to wearing shoes in half the time of traditional bunion surgery.
This technology was first introduced to the state of Missouri when performed at JCMG by Dr. McAleer. The medical technology company Treace Medical Concepts, Inc. cultivated this technology and supplies the Lapiplasty System which provides reproducible 3D triplane bunion correction. This advanced method reduces the risk of bunion reoccurrence and improves patient outcomes.
Bunion Day was originally celebrated at JCMG to commemorate the first Lapiplasty performed in Missouri. It was then recognized locally on April 13th, 2020, with support from former Jefferson City Mayor Carrie Tergin and the City Council. Dr. McAleer, Dr. Duke, and the JCMG podiatry team are confident the holiday will quickly gain more recognition with the state-wide proclamation. They look forward to seeing how Bunion Day will shine a light on those who suffer from this condition and lead more patients to find relief!
