Dr. Rucker’s Dish – Motivation to Workout

By Rachel Rucker, D.O.

It’s easy to do nothing, it’s hard to do something you’ve never done before. The very first step in working out happens even before you enter your workout space. You have to get your mind right. If your mind doesn’t want to do it, you will find every excuse in the book not to work out. A lot of what I hear is: “I don’t have the time, I don’t have the space, I don’t have the equipment, I’m too tired… etc.” My first post was dress for the occasion. Get your mind right. The next step is to do something that would motivate you.

For me, it’s having one of my favorite TV shows playing in the background. I know I can only listen to that show when I work out. For others who work out in the morning, it could be to have your favorite cup of coffee… but only after working out. Tie something that you love to working out. Eventually routine kicks in, and it becomes much easier. The hardest step is the first step.
