Bladder Treatment Center and Women's Healthcare

There are many treatments for problems that women used to have to “live with” or required very invasive procedures and lengthy recovery time. Today, however, there are many effective in-office procedures, which are offered at JCMG Bladder Treatment Center and Women’s Healthcare.

Menorrhagia

Ten million women in the U.S. suffer from menorrhagia, meaning they have heavier, prolonged and generally more painful periods than the rest of the population. For these women, their periods cause a serious strain on their lifestyles. There are a number of treatment options available for women to end or reduce heavy periods. One particular treatment that has met with great success is NovasureEndometrial Ablation (EA), a one-time, 90-second outpatient procedure. In fact, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued new guidelines about who should be considered for EA. They indicate that EA is an appropriate first-line treatment for women with self-perceived heavy menstrual bleeding. This is a procedure that has met with overall high success rates, can be performed in-office and in most cases, is covered with an office visit copayment.

Permanent Birth Control

When it comes to birth control, there are a number of options available to women. One comment we hear a lot from women is that they wish they could stop worrying about birth control. That’s why we’re pleased to offer Essure, a simple procedure that’s giving our patients what no other birth control does: a gentle, hormone-free answer that doesn’t require cutting, anesthesia or a lengthy recovery. The Essure procedure, the latest advancement in female sterilization, is becoming the gold standard in permanent birth control. The Essure procedure is the only FDA-approved transcervical sterilization procedure. Using a straightforward hysteroscopic approach, flexible, biocompatible micro-inserts are placed in the fallopian tubes to cause tubal occlusion via natural tissue response over a three-month period. Because the Essure procedure is non-incisional and does not require general anesthesia, we can perform it safely and comfortably in our office. This minimizes time out of a patient’s day and provides them with a more relaxed and less stressful setting.

Bladder Health

Urinary incontinence and overactive bladder are not life threatening conditions; however, it taxes the social, physical, and emotional life of women experiencing bladder problems.

Dr. Robert Ferris has completed extensive training on conservative, minimally invasive office procedures to dramatically improve symptoms and drastically restore a woman’s quality of life. One such procedure is percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), a non-surgical office treatment that does not involve any medications. The new treatment for overactive bladder and urge incontinence has been shown to be up to 90 percent effective when patients have failed conventional medical therapy. Additionally, new minimally invasive procedures for stress incontinence can also be performed in the office or on an outpatient basis. These procedures all involve strengthening the pelvic urethral support system so that women can once again regain control of their bladder function. Two other treatment options are urethral slings, which act like a hammock to support the urethra, and radiofrequency to strengthen the collagen around the urethra.

There are a wide array of non-invasive, in-office procedures to help the active woman of today.  In addition, Dr. Ferris provides a wide range of care for mature women.
